Once up on a time, in the town of Fairview, settled in a quaint, friendly suburb, housewife Mary Alice Young (played by Brenda Strong) decided to end her seemingly peaceful life. Now, ten years later, we are taken through the lives of those who have known her. Her friends, neighbours and family. Set in Wisteria lane, we follow the lives of her old friends, Susan Mayer (played by Teri Hatcher) a woman as clumsy in love as she is in the kitchen, the off-her-feet housewife Lynette Scavo (Felicity Huffman) who spends the majority of her time dealing with the constraints and dramas of balancing a needy husband, a house full of kids and a demanding career, Bree Hodge (Marcia Cross), the successful author of a cookbook and director of a renowned catering company, Gabrielle Solice (Eva Longoria Parker) who struggles with the transition from model to housewife of Wisteria Lane. We watch as the tight foursome welcome newly single woman Katherine Mayfair (played by Dana Delany) who was around on Wisteria Lane during the times Mary Alice Young was around. Newest housewife on the street, Angie Bolen (Drea de Matteo) leans towards turning the lives of the group upside down. Of course there are then, the men of Wisteria Lane. Mike Delifno (James Denton), Susan’s suave and charming plumber of a husband, Tom Scavo (Doug Savant) Lynette’s loveable husband who barely copes with the family’s dramatics as well as his wife does, Gabrielle’s hard working and dedicated family oriented husband, Carlos (played by Ricardo Antonio Chavira), devoted husband of Bree, Orson Hodge (Kyle MacLauchlan), and Angie’s mysterious and somewhat secretive husband, Nick Bolen (Jeffrey Nordling). The children of Wisteria Lane add quality to the series by providing characteristic supporting roles. Andrea Bowen plays Julie Mayer, Susan’s charming and well-mannered daughter who, like many in Wisteria Lane, is keeping some dark secrets of her own, Charlie Carver plays Porter Scavo, one of Lynette’s twin, the emotionally distraught and troubled Scavo’s son and Penny, their only daughter while Mason Vale plays MJ Delfino, Susan and Mike’s youngest son. Madison De La Garza plays Juanita, alongside Celia (Daniella Baltodano), the Solice family’s young and far-from-trouble daughters. Majara Walsh plays Carlos Solice’s young and demanding niece, and Beau Mirchoff plays Danny Bolen, Angie’s dark and brooding 19 year old son. Of course Wisteria Lane would not be complete without the Gay Couple of the suburban town, Bob (Tuc Watkins) and Lee (Kevin Rahm). The couple shifted to the city for a more peaceful life, but find it hard living among local busybody, Karen McClusky (played by Kathryn Joosten). From the ongoing narrative of Mary Alice, we see that she understands more about her quaint suburban town now than she ever did alive. She drives us through the secrets in every household and the dramatics of every relationship in Wisteria Lane. Desperate Housewives hosts a stellar lineup of stars, from the housewives to the frequent and seasonal stars; Nicollette Sheridan and Edie Britt during seasons 1-5, Betty Applewhite in season five played by Alfred Woodard, Shawn Pyfrom as Andrew Van de Kamp and Joy Lauren as Danielle Van de Kamp, Mark Moses as Paul Young and Cody Kasch as Zach Young in seasons 1-2 and Steven Culp as Rex Van de Kamp solely in season 1.
‘The Golden Girls’ executive producer Marc Cherry created and produces the show. Touchstone Television is responsible for production of Desperate Housewives and the series famously is the winner of consecutive Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy Golden Globe awards in 2005 and 2006.
